TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Legal Commission at the House of Representatives (DPR) Bambang Soesatyo, urged President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to strengthen cyber crime units in the Indonesian National Police, the State Intelligence Agency, and the Ministry of Defense, to counter cyber attack threats and in relation to the government's plan to establish a National Cyber Agency.
"The strengthening of every cyber units is essential to counter the potential of cyber attacks, including the attacks on national security and defense, and also the attacks that can potentially disrupt public order," Bambang said on Monday, January 16, 2017.

According to Bambang, Indonesia currently has the Cyber Defense Unit at the Ministry of Defense, Cyber Intelligence at the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), and Cyber Security at the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
Bambang argued that recently escalating threats of cyber crimes require special attention of the President.
“The increasing [threat] can be seen through the success of Russia's secret agent in hacking America’s cyber defense. United States' intelligence agency, such as CIA and FBI, has already issued an open statement related to their defense being hacked by Russian secret agents," Bambang said.
The cyber attack against the United States succeeded in intervening with United States' presidential election back on November 2016, which claimed to have assisted Donald Trump's triumph.
