TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) has planned to stage a rally at the National Police Headquarters in East Jakarta, Monday, January 16, 2017. “Tomorrow [today], there will be a rally at Police HQ at 9 am, [preceded by] a long march from Al-Azhar Mosque,” the FPI official Novel Bamukmin told Tempo yesterday, January 15.
Novel said that they would demand Police chief to remove West Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan from his post. According to Novel, Anton Charliyan, the advisor of GMBI mass organization, has incited the organizations’ members against the ulemas.

“We demand Police chief to remove West Java Police chief from his post for his involvement in inciting thugs to attack the ulemas,” Novel said. According to him, the FPI members will be accompanied by the National Movement to Guard the Indonesian Ulema Council's Edict (GNPF MUI) and the MUI itself.
Novel said that attack against FPI ulemas started when the FPI leader Rizieq Shihab attended police questioning on Thursday at West Java Police HQ over alleged slander and insult against the state symbol.
The FPI members clashed with the GMBI, who demanded prosecution against Rizieq. Novel said that the GMBI members already had sharp objects and batons in their hands when Rizieq arrived at West Police HQ.
“It’s very apparent and [police] had let them,” he said. “Police should protect [the people], not scaring, silencing them. We expect West Java Police chief to be held accountable and resign with immediate effect.”
