TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has earmarked a budget of Rp2.2 trillion for the mortgage down-payment subsidy program this year. The government is targeting the fund can be used to subsidize at least 550,000 units of homes for people with low income.
The ministry's director general for home financing Maurin Sitorus said in a press conference yesterday that there are requirements for banks wishing to distribute the subsidy. They include submitting an application letter to the Directorate General.
Banks that can distribute the subsidy can either be conventional banks or sharia banks. They have to be commercial banks that partner with the government in managing debit and credit accounts, "as well as other accounts belonging to state ministries, institutions or work units," Maurin said.
Earlier, PT Pusat Pengelolaan Dana Pembiayaan Perumahan's president director Budi Hartono stated his optimism that subsidized house sales will remain stable in 2017, despite the current economic fluctuations.
