TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) crowded West Java Police Department Headquarters this morning to accompany FPI’s great imam Rizieq Shihab for questioning over insult to the state symbol. Rizieq has also been accused of insulting Indonesia’s first president Soekarno.
Anti-Rizieq group were also present at the compound. Hundreds of police personnel had stood guard to avoid a clash between the two groups.
West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus earlier said that Rizieq was slated to attend questioning in the case for the first time at 9 pm local time.
The FPI leader was reported to police by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri, the daughter of former president Soekarno, for allegedly insulting the state symbol.
The basis of the report was a video recording showing Rizieq’s speech before the FPI members.
