TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police have detained a perpetrator who assaulted a volunteer of the Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat campaign team. The the perpetrator, who was identified as Irfan, turned himself in to the West Jakarta Police station on Sunday, January 8, 2017.
Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono has confirmed the arrest.
Argo added that the police have named Irfan and his friend Fahmi as suspects. Fahmi's whereabouts however, is still unknown. Meanwhile, eight other assailants allegedly involved in the assault are still being interrogated.
Widodo, a Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) official and a campaign volunteer for Ahok and Djarot, was assaulted by several individuals on Jalan Jelambar Utara in West Jakarta on January 6. Widodo was left bruised after the attack.
Widodo believed that he was attacked by 10 individuals. Widodo claimed that he knew two of the attackers.
