TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A photo showing a Garuda Indonesia flight attendant named Vera carrying an elderly woman on the back who was about to get off the plane has gone viral and received many praises.
The photo was first uploaded by a man with a Twitter account @efenerr.
He uploaded the picture and tweeted: "This Flight Attendant of @IndonesiaGaruda flight GA821 is simply amazing. Touching. I am speechless,” Farchan tweeted on Saturday (7/1).
Other netizens also took to Twitter and praised the flight attendant.
In response to that Garuda Indonesia, responded by tweeting: "Thank you for your appreciation.”
The flight attendant’s name is Vera.
Garuda Indonesia VP Corporate Communication Benny Siga Butarbutar said Vera is a young flight attendant who was on duty on flight GA 821 from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta on Saturday.
At that time, the plane has just landed at Soekarno-Hatta airport at 11:45 am.
When all passengers have disembarked the plane, Vera saw one passenger, an elderly woman, was still seated on seat 41C. The passenger was accompanied by one of her relatives.
“Without thinking twice, Vera approached the woman,” Benny said.
It turned out that the elderly woman needed a wheelchair to get off the plane. Vera then talked to her while waiting for the wheelchair. From the conversation, it was found that the woman was a member of the umrah (minor hajj) group who had to take a connecting flight.
After a while, the wheelchair did not come yet.
Flight Service Manager (FSM) Ninik Septinawati and Vera also offered assistance so the woman can immediately get off the plane.
“Vera then took the liberty of carrying the woman on the back through the exit door at the back of the plane,” kata Benny.
Benny said what Vera and Ninik did was part of Garuda Indonesia’s professional service standard.
“What Vera did is a proof and reflection of our professionalism,” Benny said.
Benny also hoped that this action could serve as a positive example for the rest of Garuda’s crew to continue improving services for the passengers.
