TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly said that an effective way to anticipate Chinese workers influx into Indonesia is to tighten monitoring.
Yasonna said that monitoring will be carried out by adopting barcode reading technology for passport reading, which he plans to implement next year.
“We can develop it,” Yasonna said in his office on Thursday. He expressed that there are only 21,000 Chinese workers in Indonesia.
Yasonna said that barcode reading technology for passport reading may be implemented to monitor foreigners wanting to buy airline tickets to Indonesia. The system will allow tracing of passport holders who overstay their visas.
Yasonna also confirmed that the rumor of the influx of 10 million Chinese foreign workers into Indonesia was a hoax. He has instead accused others of having hidden agenda behind the rumor. “If it was some kind of incitement, we will take action,” he said.
Yasonna said that the government had deported over 7,800 foreigners this year for various reasons. Some 300 of whom had undergone legal proceedings.
