TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh - Aceh Provincial Government is holding the 12th commemoration of Tsunami in the region on Monday, December 26, 2016. "The main activity is held at Ulee Lheu Mosque, Banda Aceh," said Frans Delian Head of Aceh’s Public Relation Office, Sunday, December 25, 2016.
The commemoration activities include dhikr (remembrance of God), prayers and social activity for the orphans, and the Tsunami commemoration ceremony. "Also paying a visit to the mass grave of Tsunami victims in Ulee Lheu," Frans added.
By holding the 12th commemoration, the government and people of Aceh are hoped to keep on increasing the awareness of disaster-preparedness.
In addition to the religious activities, a number of communities hold a 10K marathon of Tsunami Games in Aceh Jaya District and a dialogue that is held by Aceh administration, Japan, and The Laboratory for Global Dialogue. A Tsunami photo exhibition will also be held at Tsunami Museum.
Aceh Tsunami, 12 years ago, had killed more than 200,000 people and left hundreds homeless.
