TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Catholic Students Union (PMKRI) on Monday, December 26, 2016, filed a report against Islamic Defender Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab to the Jakarta Police for allegedly committing religious blasphemy during a speech at an event held in East Jakarta on Sunday, December 25, 2016.

"We are insulted and hurt by hatred speech delivered by Habib Rizieq Shihab," Angelo Wake Kako, chairman of the PMKRI presidium said after filing the report at the Jakarta Police Headquarter.

Anggelo revealed that the video footage containing Rizieq's statement had gone viral on social media. In the video, Rizieq was delivering a sermon related to bans on Muslims to extend Merry Christmas to Catholics and Christians.

Rizieq, Angelo said, claimed that God bears no child and was not born.

"If God bears a child, then who's the midwife?" Rizieq said in his speech.

In addition to filing a report against Rizieq, Angelo also reported Instagram account Fauzi_ahmad_fiiqolby belongs to Fauzi Ahmad and twitter account @sayareya. Both accounts allegedly disseminated the video footage.

Angelo deplored Rizieq’s statement in his sermon.

"It reflects religious intolerance in Indonesia that we've been trying to prevent to this date," Angelo said.

Rizieq was reported to have violated Article 156 and Article 156 A of the Criminal Code or Article 28 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 25 A paragraph 2 of Law No. 19/2016. In addition, Fauzi Ahmad and Saya Reya were charged with Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).

Novel Bamukmin, secretary general of the Jakarta Branch of the FPI, has planned to report the PMKRI for defaming Rizieq.

"It's their right to report [Rizieq], but we will report them too," Novel told Tempo, claiming that the PMKRI had attempted to disrupt nation's unity.

Novel dismissed the PMKRI's allegation that Rizieq Shihab had committed a religious blasphemy. According to Novel, Rizieq's sermon was aimed at Muslims.

"Those who taped and uploaded the sermon must be investigated," Novel urged.
