Karawang Transportation Agency Staff Nabbed over Illegal Levies

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Illegal Levies Eradication Task Force at Karawang resort police has arrested Arim Komarudin, a non-tenured staff at Karawang Transportation Agency for allegedly collecting illegal levies.
Arim was arrested at a flyover in Cikampek district, Karawang regency on Thursday (22/12).
Head of Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police Brigadier General Rikwanto said Arim demanded money from public minivan (angkot) drivers every time they passed the flyover.
However, the drivers did not receive an official receipt from the Transportation Agency, Rikwanto said.
“They money he collected is not given to the regional government,” Rikwanto said in a written statement on Friday (23/12).
The police confiscated Rp 155,000 in cash and a number of retribution receipts as evidence.
Arim is now undergoing an intensive questioning, Rikwanto said.
