TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said that he dreamt of the day where every state official must prove his/her wealth through a reverse burden of proof.
He also prefers Indonesia to adapt non-cash transactions. Ahok said that is because he wants Indonesia to be free from corruption.
Ahok admits that he did not spontaneously spark the idea. It was an idea he fought for since he served as East Belitung Regent until he became a member of the House of Representatives (DPR).
He said that if a state official refuses to prove his/her wealth, then that person is not allowed to be a state official. “That’s why many people want to overthrow me [from my position],” Ahok said at Lembang House, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
Despite many risks will follow, Ahok said that he was not afraid to eradicate corruption. He even said that he was not afraid of the imprisonment threat. He says that being imprisoned will not stop him from sparking ideas for Indonesia.
“I can be imprisoned, but no one can imprison my ideas. I've written it all down (have the record). None of you will be able to stop me,” Ahok stated.
Therefore, he asked all of his supporters to vote him on the election day on February 15, 2017.
