Bank Indonesia: New Banknotes to Not Easily be Counterfeited

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) will release a new series of Rupiah banknotes on Monday, December 19, 2016, that consists of seven types of banknotes paper and four types of coins that feature pictures of national heroes.
Executive Director of the Department of Currency Management, Bank Indonesia, Suhaedi, said the new banknotes paper that will be released are Rp100,000, Rp50,000, Rp20,000, Rp10,000, Rp5,000, Rp2,000, and Rp1,000. Meanwhile, the new coins will be in the form of Rp1,000, Rp500, Rp200, and Rp100.
To avoid counterfeiting, a number of enhanced security to be featured to the new banknotes. “The enhancement will be done through the color shifting, rainbow feature, latent image, ultra violet feature, tactile effect, and recto verso,” Suhaedi said on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
Another new feature is the images of national heroes that is used based on the Presidential Decree No. 31/2016 on the Use of National Heroes on National Banknotes and Coins.
