8 Activists Arrested for Allegedly Plotting a Coup: Report

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police have reportedly arrested several activists for allegedly planning coup. The activists were arrested in separate places this morning as today’s rally draws near.
“Some have been arrested by Police and still being questioned,” the National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar told Tempo. Boy said that he had yet to know about the identity of the eight suspects.
Inge Mangundap of Advokat Cinta Tanah Air said that police have arrested activist Ratna Sarumpaet at 7 am at Sari Pan Pacific Hotel.
“She [Ratna] was even body searched,” said Inge, who claimed to accompany Ratna during the arrest. Musician Ahmad Dhani, who also spent the night at the hotel, was also arrested.
According to him, both had been taken to the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Command Headquarters. Inge said Ratna and Ahmad Dhani had been arrested for allegedly planning coup, adding that police claimed they had evidence.
Moreover, Police have also reportedly arrested other activists Rachmawati Soekarnoputri and Sri Bintang Pamungkas, among others. Sri Bintang was arrested at his house in Cibubur, Depok.
