TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Defense Ministry expressed its appreciation to the Jakarta Military Court for handing over life sentence to Brig. Gen. Teddy Henayadi over a graft case worth US$12 million.
Defense Ministry’s Inspector General Junior Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto said that the rule would be the momentum for the Defense Ministry to implement an internal reform.
“We will improve the system or the Standard Operating Procedure at the Defense Ministry. Based on the facts presented at the court, many individuals received unrevealed assistances or loans from Teddy,” Hadi said after attending the 2016 National Conference on Corruption Eradication in Jakarta on Thursday, December 1, 2016.
Teddy was proven guilty of committing corruption when serving as the head of the financing division of the Defense Ministry in the period of 2010-2014.
According to the panel of judges, Teddy had abused his authority to embezzle US$12 million that was supposed to be allocated for primary weapons defense system procurement.
Hadi added that the Defense Ministry would continue to develop the investigation of the case, as 53 other individuals could be involved in the case. Hadi revealed that the investigation will be supervised by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“We support the government policy to free us from corruption. All institutions will certainly execute the program. This also serves as a shock therapy,” he added.
