TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Embassy of Colombia in Indonesia will participate for the fifth consecutive year in the Women’s International Club (WIC) Charity Bazaar held at the Jakarta Convention Center starting on November 30th.
The non-profit organization helps raise funds for works for social improvements, such as orphanages, nursing homes, schools for the disabled, mental rehabilitation centers, and public hospitals. As many as 50 diplomatic missions participate in this annual charity bazaar which is mainly led by the spouses of Ambassadors accredited in Jakarta. Each country will have a booth where visitors can discover more about the culture, art, cuisine, and various traditional products.
This year, Colombia will exhibit jewels made by the Kamentsa indigenous people, who live primarily in Putumayo and Nariño, in the Colombian Southwest. These jewels woven with colored beads represent the diverse shapes and colors of the country's southern nature. The Colombian stand will also have exclusive crafts and jewelry created by Colombian designers living in Jakarta, which combine pre-Columbian objects with stones from Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia.
Also available for sale are objects made with materials such as tagua (palm seed) and the traditional mochila bags of the Wayuú indigenous people from the northern region of the country. The profits obtained from the sales of this bazaar will be used to support the Social Welfare programs sponsored by the Women's International Club (WIC). The event can be attended by invitation available at the Embassy on November 30th from 1:00 pm, and then will be opened to the public on December 1 at 9:00 a.m.
