TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian said that the Police and the National Movement to Protect the MUI Fatwa (GNPF MUI) have conveyed several agreements on the Third Act to Defend Islam rally which will be held on December 2, 2016.

“After a long discussion, [we've] reached an agreement [to hold the rally] in Istiqlal Mosque and the National Monument’s (monas) field,” he said on Monday, November 28,2016.

According to Tito, the movement will be supervised by the police, as well as TNI personnel, Satpol PP, and a number of organizations who will provide security assistance. “Activities in Monas (will be held) from 08.00-13.00 Western Indonesian Time in the form of a spiritual activity. We appreciate (the decision) because it won’t disturb the peace.”

The press conference was attended by a number of public figures, such as MUI Chairman Ma’ruf Amin and the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab.

Earlier, the GNPF-MUI had planned on holding the Third Act to Defend Islam rally and urging law enforcers to imprison inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama that is currently the suspect of a blasphemy case.
