TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Attorney General Office (AGO) will take an immediate decision on whether the alleged case of blasphemy against Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) can be taken to court based upon the documents it received from the police on Friday.

"We have 13 prosecutors ready to study the dossiers, of which 10 have come from the AGO, two from the provincial prosecutors office and one from the district prosecutors office," the Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes, Noor Rachmad, said.

He stated that they would study these to decide if the case meets the requirements for being brought to the court, based upon the Criminal Code.

He added that the AGO has two weeks to study the dossiers in this case.

He said his office would immediately decide once it received the dossiers from the police.

"We will immediately take a stance. I cannot say how many days it will take exactly but we will do it as soon as possible," he assured.

"We will handle the case very seriously," he reiterated.

The polices crime investigation department submitted a 826-page dossier in Ahoks case to the AGO on Friday.

The police handed over the documents after it had questioned 40 people, including those who filed the case and also expert witnesses.

The police named Ahok as a suspect in the case of alleged blasphemy. Ahok had quoted a verse from Al Quran and said during a meeting with people in the district of Kepulauan Seribu in North Jakarta on September 27, 2016 that certain people have used the verse for their vested interest.

The police have charged Ahok for violating Article 156 and article 156a of the Criminal Code.
