TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that the national franchise industry has developed rapidly to 698 companies with a total of 24,400 outlets.
“The annual turnover generated by our franchise industry reached 172 trillion (US$13.2 billion),” he said during the Indonesia Franchise & SME Expo (IFSE) at the Senayan Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Friday, November 25, 2016.
Enggar explained that the local franchise accounts for 63 percent of the national franchise industry. He added that the portion would continue to expand as national small and medium businesses are growing.
The Minister revealed that the franchise business has a huge potential, and expanding outlets is now easier and needs no huge capital investment. Franchise owners, Enggar added, will be able to open branch stores by selling their brands.
“Franchise businesses also absorb a significant number labors,” he said.
Therefore, he viewed that the franchise industry can serve a function as the driving force of economic activities amid the economic slowdown.
Enggar expressed his commitment to supporting local franchise businesses to improve their operational standards in accordance with applicable regulations. One of the requirements is to obtain Franchise Registration Certificate (SPTW).
