TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online shopping has become a part of an urban society lifestyle. Currently, an increased number of consumers purchasing online through their smartphones. Interestingly, Google's record shows that most of the shoppers are disloyal.
“The smartphone online shoppers are always open about their choices,” said Hengky Prihatna, Industry Head of Google Indonesia, on Thursday, November 17, 2016.
He explained, about 87 percent of consumers who shop online through their phones are not loyal to a brand or a certain online store. Data shows that although they can picture the item they want to purchase in a certain online store, they admit that they would change their mind after stumbling upon new information on the item that was being searched. “They would choose the cheapest ones,” Hengky said.
According to Google, the number of current smartphone users is around 100 million users or 43 percent of Indonesia’s total population. From that number, around 57 percent of smartphone users has started to use it for online shopping. “Cellphone users in Indonesia are already starting to shop online,” Hengky said.
Based on Google’s data, the number of smartphone users in Indonesia has constantly grown since 2013. The data on ownership increased from 14 percent in 2013, to 28 percent in 2014, and grew even bigger to 43 percent in 2015.
Moreover, the smartphone usage has increased. Smartphone users currently spend around two hours using their gadgets.
