TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sarlito Wirawan Sarwono, Psychology Professor at the University of Indonesia (UI), passed away at the age of 72. Tangerang Police Chief Commissioner Ayi Supardan was one of Sarlito’s students at Police Science Studies, UI’s postgraduate program.
Ayi said that Sarlito was a figure with strong desire, humble, kind, laid back, but serious.
“I remember that he really loved music,” Ayi said on Tuesday, November 15, 2016.
Ayi added that Sarlito learned to play saxophone at the age of 60. “This can be an example, nothing is too late. If you want to do something, (then) do it,” Ayi said.
Muhammad Banyu Barlianto, a staff at the Police Science Studies Postgraduate Program, viewed Sarlito as a ‘hip’ professor. Banyu, who had been working for Sarlito since 1996, added that Sarlito was a humble person. Sarlito once attended his son’s circumcision ceremony.
“He was willing to come. A person who usually attended embassy events was willing to come to a village,” Banyu explained.
Banyu said that National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian was also Sarlito’s student.
Sarlito will be buried at the Giri Tama Tonjong Cemetery, Parung, Bogor, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016.
