TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Masinton Pasaribu, member of House of Representative’s Commission III overseeing legal affairs, said that the Commission will let police do their job in alleged blasphemy committed by Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama. The Legal Commission has decided not to attend the case presentation held in the National Police Headquarter despite being invited to do so.
“We want to respect the law, and [we] believe in Police professionalism,” Masinton said on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta.
Masinton explained that the Commission will monitor the case expose from afar, “so that Police will maintain professionalism and are not being interfered by other institutions,” he noted.
However, Masinton said that the Legal Commission will not evaluate the case presentation, adding that it will leave the legal proceedings to police. “We shall monitor it together, not only the Commission III, but also the people and the media,” said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician.
In relation to PDIP’s endorsement for Ahok in the upcoming Jakarta Gubernatorial Election, Masinton said that the party’s stance has not changed. “The PDIP is committed to its decision and will certainly observe the dynamics in relation to our strategy,” he said.
