TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police chief Gen.Tito Karnavian reminds groups of people not to violate any regulations while participating in demonstration on the upcoming November 4.
Such a reminder is directed at thousands of protesters from different Islamic organizations that demand the arrest of Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.
"Do abide by the law. There is Law No. 9/1998 that regulates expression of aspirations. There is the right time and place for that," Tito said in Jakarta on Saturday (30/10).
The same demonstration was held two weeks ago.
The police, Tito said, is obliged to protect the people including the protesters. Such a protection is provided based on legal procedures.
"When everything follows the law, we will provide protection. Don’t be anarchistic. When there’s violence, we have legal procedures to deal with it."
He explained that the Police have specific steps to face the worst scenarios as anachistic actions.
"So, we will take soft actions, and then firm actions. Do not cut my statements that the Police will directly take firm actions," Tito said.
