Minister Andi to Score 75,000 Hectares of New Agriculture Fields

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman aims to score 75,000 hectares of new agriculture fields in Borneo. “Each province has sent a proposal on how many new fields they will need," said Amran.
Amran said that all provinces have given positive response on the ministerial agenda in making the province self sufficent in food. They have entailed some infrastructure requests to support the new fields such as water system and rehabilitation, totalling to Rp 2.28 trillion.
The new fields will be centered in West Borneo (50,000 hectares) and Central Borneo (21,550
hectares). The rest will be divided in the other provinces.Amran also demanded an increase in productivity to be three times in a year. "Rice is now only 15 million tons. I expect 30 million tons," he said.
