TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini has been asked to become a speaker at the UN Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador.
“Risma has been asked to become a speaker in some sessions,” Surabaya administration public relations head Muhammad Fikser toldTempo at his office on Tuesday, October 10, 2016.
Fikser said Risma will first attend the Community Forum held by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) in Bogota, Colombia on Thursday, October 13. She will give a speech on her achievements in the forum which adopted the theme Metropolitan and Peripheral Cities. “From Bogota, Mrs. Mayor will continue to the UN Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador,” he said.
He went on to say that Risma is slated to attend the opening of the UN Habitat III Conference as both a participant and a speaker in parallel sessions. After the opening of the conference, Risma is scheduled to give a speech in a forum adopting the theme Regional Implementation of the New Urban Agenda held by UNESCAP.
“On the sidelines of the event, she will receive an award from The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) Rotterdam, the Netherlands, as the best alumnus,” he said.
On the second day of the UN Habitat III Conference, Risma will become the speaker on public space in the first session and on children and urban development in the second session. “In the second session, Risma has been asked directly by UNICEF to speak about children and development issues in Surabaya,” he said.
After the session, Risma will depart for Surabaya on a 36-hour flight.
