TEMPO.CO, Palangkaraya - As many as 47 fire spots have been found in six regencies in Central Kalimantan, based on an observation of Terra Aqua Satellite run by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in H Asan Sampit on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
The BMKG in a press release reported that the observation had a 50 percent of confidence level. As many 26 hotspots were found in Katingan, Gunung Mas, Kapuas, East Kotawaringin, Murung Raya, and Seruyan regencies, although the Central Kalimantan Province has entered rainy season. In addition, the Central Kalimantan provincial administration has planned to revoke the emergency status of land and forest fires on October 8, 2016. All helicopters to help with firefighting will be returned.
The plan to revoke the status was confirmed by Col. Arh. Purwo Sudaryanto, commander of the Land and Forest Fire Mitigation Taskforce, on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. According to Purwo, the plan was initiated since Central Kalimantan has entered rainy season.
“It’s currently rainy season, so it was decided to revoke the emergency status of land and forest fires,” he explained.
As many as four helicopters prepared for water bombing activities will be returned after the revocation letter is issued. Purwo revealed that two regencies prone to land and forest fires included West Kotawaringin and Katingan.
