TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Senior journalist Herawati Diah passes away at 4:10 AM on Friday at Medistra Hospital in Jakarta.
Diah was the spouse of prominent journalist and former information minister of the Republic of Indonesia Burhanuddin Mohammad Diah. Diah was born in April 3 1917. A close relative Basuki said her corpse will be laid out in the family home at Jalan Patra Kuningan 9 No. 10 in South Jakarta.
Before her death, Diah had been treated at Medistra Hospital for a month. Friends recall Diah as a smart, polite and patient woman.
Diah was the founder of the Movement toward Education of Women Voters (Gerakan Perempuan Sadar Pemilu), which was aimed at providing political education for women to encourage them to use their rights to vote according to their consciousness. The movement has now changed into the Women's Voice Empowerment Movement (Gerakan Pemberdayaan Swara Perempuan).
