TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nissan Motor Indonesia (NMI) announced the recall of a number of its cars following reports of faulty airbag in the driver's seat. In Indonesia, the announcement was issued at the same time of the Nissan Global campaign.
The car models being recalled are Nissan Grand Livina, Livina, X-Gear, Latio, and Navara.
"It is important for us to give detailed and transparent information to buyers so they can immediately visit Nissan's official workshops and get reimbursed as soon as possible," NMI president director Antonio Zara said in a press release, Friday, September 23.
According to Antonio, customers can start receiving their free airbag replacement starting today, September 23. He said the airbag replacement process will take approximately one hour.
He said that the recalled products include 48,719 units of Nissan Grand Livina/Livina/X-Gear, 976 units of Nissan Latio, and 4,071 units of Nissan Navara.
Nissan's faulty airbags were produced by automobile safety equipment company, Takata. Takata now has to face a lot of problems because of the faulty airbags. As of August 2016, Takata's airbags have injured more than 150 people and killed eight in the United States and Malaysia.
Takata's airbags can burst suddenly, despite no collision. The explosion, triggered by a chemical gas inside the airbag, can propel sharp splinters toward the drivers or passengers.
