TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has asked the state market operator PD Pasar Jaya to conduct an inspection in South Jakarta's Santa Market.
"I have asked Pasar Jaya's president director to evaluate Santa Market. Reportedly, there are practices of renting stalls there," said Basuki, also known as Ahok, in Jakarta, Thursday, September 20.
According to Basuki, the rental practices are carried out between one Santa Market trader and another.
"Based on the reports I received, many traders are renting out their stalls to another trader. They must be given a strong warning for doing that."
According to regulations, one household can only own one kiosk in the market. But in practice, many families have more than one stall.
"If we find traders who own more than one stall, we will directly deal with them, throw them out, and ban them from selling in that market," Ahok said.
