KPK Examines 6 Graft Suspects in Banyuasin Education Department

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) interrogated six bribery suspects in Banyuasin District Education Department, South Sumatra, on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
The six suspects include Banyuasin Regent Yan Anton Ferdian, PP CV Director Zulfikar Muharami, Sub-Division Head of Banyuasin District Household Rustami, Head of Banyuasin Education Department Umar Usman, Head of Section for Construction and Quality Improvement of Banyuasin Edication Sutaryo, and an entrepreneur, Kirman.
In the case, KPK has set Zulfikas as the briber. He is suspected of violating Article 5-a or 5-b and/or Article 13 of the Corruption Law. Meanwhile, Yan Anton, Rustami, Umar, Sutaryo, and Kirman have been set as the bribee and are suspected to violate Article 12-a or 12-b and/or Article 11 of the Corruption Law.
Yan Anton is believed to be in need of Rp1 billion in cash to go on hajj with his wife. He then requested Rustami to ask Umar the projects in the Education Department.
The Education Department Head along with Sutaryo contacted Zulfikar through Kirman. Kirman is believed to have conducted a fundraiser who became a liaison between entrepreneurs and officials. Yan Anton is suspected to have exchange Rp1 billion with a project in the Education Department.
