Jack Ma to be Appointed as Indonesia`s e-Commerce Advisor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communications and Informatics Minister Rudiantara said that Alibaba Group Holding owner Jack Ma would be appointed as an adviser for Indonesia’s e-commerce road-map.

“The administration process is being completed. In addition, I’ve been in communications with Alibaba Group’s executives to discuss the legality,” Rudiantara said at the Presidential Palace on Friday, September 9, 2016.

Rudi claimed that the plan to recruit Jack Ma as an adviser had been well-prepared by approaching the business owner with the highest net value in China through Alibaba’s executives. The efforts came to fruition when President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met Jack Ma in China.

Rudi revealed that Jack Ma agreed to become an adviser following Indonesia’s e-commerce potentials. According to Jack Ma, Indonesia has already had a sufficient e-commerce foundation system in addition to small and medium businesses that can support the e-commerce activity at a global scale.

“Jack Ma has been familiar with the e-commerce condition in Indonesia. Moreover, Alibaba is in Indonesia,” he added.

Alibaba currently owns stakes at one of Indonesian e-commerce companies, Lazada.
