TEMPO.CO, Batam - Governor of central Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo estimates that Indonesia's surplus balance of trade could continue in the next two quarters of this year because of sustained contributions exhibited significantly from the increasing inflows on the capital and financial transactions.
"It is estimated that there will be a surplus in the second quarter of 2016 due to the capital and financial that is big enough. We still see that the surplus will continue to occur throughout 2016," said Agus in Batam on Friday.
However, Agus is reluctant to predict the position of Indonesia's balance of payments surplus at the end of the year.
In the second quarter (April-May-June) 2016, Bank Indonesia's balance of payments recorded a surplus of Indonesia’s balance of trade that amounted to US$ 2.2 billion.
The surplus showed improvement after the first quarter of 2016 when Indonesia’s balance of trade posted a deficit by 0.3 billion dollars.
Balance of trade is an indicator that measures economic transactions between residents of Indonesia with residents of other countries, which is comprises current account, capital account, and financial transactions.
