TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said that a number of foreign investors had expressed interest in investing in the Indonesian fishery industry. One of the investors from Russia, Susi added, had pitched an idea to build cold storage facilities.
"They will build cold storage facilities in 10 Indonesian outer islands," Susi told Tempo in Jakarta on Thursday, August 4, 2016.
Susi revealed that the Russian investor had planned to work with the Indonesian Fishery Company (Perindo) for a year in the processing sector. Susi also said that the investment realization in the fishery sector had increased, from Rp 3.22 trillion (US$247.5 million) in 2014 to Rp 4.43 trillion (US$340.7 million) in 2015.
Susi claimed that the increase in the investment realization reflected an improved awareness of investment in the industry.
"This is a result of our war against illegal fishing," Susi said.
Susi added that domestic investors had expressed their interest in the fishery industry, pitching plans to expand their factories in a bid to increase their export volume.
