TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Fadli Zon said that the story told by Freddy Budiman to Haris Azhar, one of the Coordinators for the Missing Person and Victims of Violence Commission (KontraS). Fadli instructed law enforcement officers to clarify the story.

Previously, Haris Azhar revealed that before he was executed, Freddy broadcasted a message saying that he had received help from officials of the National Narcotics Agency and the National Police Headquarter in distributing drugs.

"Although [Freddy] has been executed, the story must be investigated, or it could raise questions in the public about the involvement of [law enforcement] officials," Fadli said on Monday, August 1, 2016.

Fadli said that Freddy's confession should serve as the first step for the Police and the National Narcotics Agency to initiate an investigation into the involvement of both institutions’ officials in drug trade. "[Involved officials] must be subjected to firm sanction," Fadli said.

Following Haris' information, the BNN and Police responded by ordering Insp. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar, Chief of Information Division of the National Police, to meet with Haris and confirm the story.

BNN Chief Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso also asked Haris to prove the story. "BNN wil impose firm and severe sanction in accordance to prevailing laws and regulations," Budi said last week.
