Indonesia Wins Award at Sabah International Folklore Festival

TEMPO.CO, Kota Kinabalu-Indonesia has won the Cultural Minister’s Award at the 11th Sabah International Folklore Festival (SIFF) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, held on July 26 to 30, 2016.
Indonesia was represented by Gantari Gita Khatulistiwa Art Studio. They performed “Baine Toraya” dance from Toraja and “Tua Basamo” dance from Minang.
Indonesia also won the Best Music Arrangement Award. The overall winner of the SIFF 2016 was an Irish dance group.
The Director of Gantari Gita Khatulistiwa art studio Edwin Leo Mokodompit said he was delighted with his team’s achievement, despite failing to come out as the overall winner.
The SIFF is an annual international event held by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment Sabah. This year’s festival was participated by Australia, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Estonia, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea and host nation Malaysia.
