TEMPO.CO, West Java-The West Java provincial administration has banned civil servants to accept Eid's parcels in order to avoid authority abuses, West Java governor Ahmad “Aher” Heryawan said on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
Aher asserted that the government has disbursed a Lebaran (Eid-al-Fitr) bonus for all state officials on Monday, June 27, 2016.
“The replacements for parcels are 13th and 14th salaries. They are better than parcels,” Aher said in Bandung, June 28, 2016.
West Java provincial administration’s spokesperson Sonny S. Adisudarma added that the ban on accepting gifts or parcels reflects West Java administration’s commitment in establishing a clean, transparent and professional government.
“We realize that receiving parcels is considered as receiving gratifications, and it definitely violates the law on corruption,” Sonny added.
Earlier, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Yuyuk Andriati Iskak on Monday, June 27, 2016 said, “Under Law NO. 20/2001 in connection with Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption, civil servants and state officials are required to refuse gratifications related to their positions and not in line with their duties and tasks.”
Yuyuk added that civil servants who violated the law would be sanctioned.
“However, in an extreme situation where they have to receive gratifications, civil servants are required to report them to the KPK within 30 days since the gratification is received,” Yuyuk explained.(*)
