TEMPO.CO, Probolinggo - Head of Fishery and Maritime Agency of Probolinggo, Dedy Isfandi, said that there have been cases of whale stranded in the northern coast of Probolinggo "The whales are likely to be pilot whales," said Dedy.
As many as 32 whales were stranded in Pesisir Village, Probolinggo, 5 of which are dead – the rest were returned to the ocean.
Dedy said that the whales are possibly escaping the storm in the ocean South of Indonesia. The storm has also mixed planktons, causing a toxic combination.
Some of the stranded whales have shown symptoms of intoxication.
"Whales have good interaction. If one of them got sick, they will help. But it can lead them stranded," he said.
Dedy adds that whales in Probolinggo waters are a good news for fishermen. It means that the waters have a lot of planktons, and a lot of fishes.
