TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Army contingent has won the Australian Army Skills at the Arms Meeting (AASAM) shooting competition in Australia by grabbing 23 gold medals.

The competition, held in Puckapunyal, Australia, from May 3 to 19, saw the participation of 20 countries.

"The Chinese Army was placed second with nine gold medals, while the Japanese were in third position with four golds," Indonesian Military spokesperson Colonel Czi Berlin G said here Saturday (May 20).

The countries that participated in the shooting competition among others were the United States (US), France, Canada, and the United Kingdom (UK), in addition to Australia, China, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates. Some other countries that participated were Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea, apart from Indonesia.

"The contingent used weapons manufactured by PT Pindad such as the SS-2 V-4 assault weapon, G-2 pistol, SM2 and SM3 machine gun, along with the ammunitions," he said.

The weapons have been used by the army in recent years, he remarked. Pindad products have become the armys primary weapon and it is the pride of Indonesians.

"The success demonstrates the professionalism of the Indonesian Army. Our soldiers are not inferior to the troops from other countries the UK, France, China and Australia, and troops such as such as the United States Marines Corps (USMC), US Army, and Anzac," he noted.

Meanwhile, the commander of the Armys Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad), Lt. Gen. Edy Rahmayadi said that the team should improve its abilities because 35 countries will participate in the 2017 AASAM.
