TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway operator PT KAI has confirmed that all regular train ticket for travels between May 5 to May 8, 2016, have been completely sold out.
Among the tickets that have been completely sold out include trips for May 4 and 5 between Jakarta, Bandung, Central Java, Jogjakarta, and East Java. Similarly, all return trips between Bandung and Jakarta for May 8 have also been completely sold out.
Only 40 executive train tickets for the Bima - which serves the Jakarta and Surabaya route - are still available, for trips departing on May 7, 2016.
"All other regular train tickets for all destination - executive, business, and economy class tickets - have been completely sold out," said the Manager for PT KAI's Manager for Purwokerto's District 5 Operations, Surono, on Tueday, April 26, 2016.
Based on the Rail Ticket System (TRS) - which monitors ticket availability - Logawa tickets departing from Purwokerto on May 5 have been sold out, continued Surono, although there are still limited amount of tickets available for other dates.
According to Surono, the improved comfort, safety, as well as the higher degree of certainty relating to the time of arrival have driven a significant chunk of the population to choose trains to travel during the holiday period - as opposed to using their own private vehicles. For example, a trip between Jakarta and Purwokerto on the Logawa averages at about five hours, compared to other means of travel available, which is highly dependent on local traffic.
PT KAI said that it will operate additional trains to accommodate the surge of passengers during the long weekend holiday period - including an additional Argo Dwipangga Tambahan, which will run between Jakarta's Gambir Station and Solo, and provide an additional 400 seats daily.
That said, Surono said tickets for the additional services have yet to be put on sale, although the tickets will be made available in the very near future.
