TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Nelson Tampubolon, commissioner for banking supervision at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), said that the optimization of digital banking could lead to an improvement of banking operational efficiency.
“With swift services, the volume will increase while the fixed cost remains the same, which in turn will lower the interest rate,” Nelson said when opening the Focus Group Discussion on Digital Banking at Bank Indonesia in Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 17, 2016.
According to Nelson, the optimization of digital banking services is in line with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s policy in a bid to boost the digital economy. Therefore, Nelson called on Bank Indonesia to support the endeavor.
However, Nelson pointed out huge challenges faced by banks to improve their digital banking services. One of the challenges, Nelson added, was encouraging industries and public to utilize digital technology. In addition, Nelson said that the development of digital banking services would need a huge investment.
