TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Jakarta branch of state electricity company PLN (PLN Disjaya) conducted an operation to clear illegal telecommunication, multimedia and information networks installed on electricity poles in Jakarta.
“For Wednesday and Thursday, we’re focusing on 48 spots around 200 electricity poles,” PLN Disjaya spokesperson Mambang Hertadi told Tempo on Thursday, March 3, 2016.
According to Mambang, PLN often finds illegal networks installed on electricity poles in Jakarta due to a high number telecommunications and informatics (telematics) companies expanding their networks in the Capital. He estimated that illegal networks had been installed in hundreds of spots.
PLN actually allows telematics companies to install their networks on PLN’s electricity poles through a cooperation with PLN Disjaya’s subsidiary company PT Indonesia Comnets Plus (ICON +).
The operation was conducted by stopping installation process, installation sealing, and cable dismantling. The company had set a target to clear Jakarta from illegal networks in April.
Mambang said that PLN Disjaya has suffered losses caused by the illegal networks, since companies were supposed to pay an amount of money to install cables on PLN’s electricity poles. He added that illegal networks could disrupt PLN’s electricity supplies.
