TEMPO.CO, Mountain View - Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a plan to train 100,000 mobile developers until 2020 during his meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
Google said in a press release that it would hold online training courses and form study groups across the country. The endeavor will be supported with Google’s current programs aimed at helping developers utilizing Google Play to reach more than 1 billion people around the globe.
For the next four years, Google will team up with universities to apply one-semester curriculum for senior-year students on how to develop high-quality Android apps. Google will also translate most important Udacity cources into Indonesian to facilitate anyone who want to realize their idea into apps. Expert instructors from Google’s Developer Relations team will be assigned, and the courses can be accessed anywhere with any devices for free. The translated contents are expected to facilitate Indonesian developers to start working.
Google will also expand its community, so called as the Indonesia Android Academy. The community is a more intensive study group led by facilitators, who also provide guidance for developers in all levels. The study groups will be set in five cities—Bandung, Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya and Yogyakarta—to reach as many people as possible.
Providing training courses for developers to create high quality apps is just a part of Google’s endeavors. Google will also help to promote their apps and motivate them to launch their own businesses.
Google HackFair will be held annually to gather developers showcasing their app designs by emphasizing on unique innovations. Google will also craft programs, such as Launchpad, to equip developers with skills, from marketing, designing UI/UX, to selling business ideas. Google Developer Groups (GDG) will also provide spaces for developers communities in six cities in Indonesia.
Google Play provides a global platform to turn apps into successful business with access to 1 billion people in the world. Recently, Google lower the minimum price for game apps and paid apps from Rp 12,000 (US$9 cents) to Rp 3,000 (US$2 cents), so that developers can reach more users.
