TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) minority group must be protected because they are still Indonesian citizens. "We must protect them from violence," said Tito on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
Tito also instructed groups that have opposing views on the issue to not to provoke each other and avoid escalating conflicts. "Pro-LGBT organizations must also not provoke those who oppose LGBT," Tito said.
According to Tito, LGBT is a complex issue that covers social, legal and sociological aspects."We must protect not only LGBT [communities] or pro-LGBT groups, but also those who oppose LGBT," said Tito.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan, said that LGBT group must be identified and protected. "Having protection is [part of] human rights," said Luhut on Monday, February 15, 2016.
