TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) Roy Sparringa confirmed news of children snack containing ‘milk condom’ that went viral in social media recently.
According to Roy, based on the finding from BPOM, the products do exist but the contents are not like what are discussed in the social media.
“For the time being, we can confirm that the products do exist but the contents are not what are talked about in the social media,” Roy said to Tempo on Sunday (24/1).
Roy also said that the products are illegal because they are not registered at BPOM and a special team from BPOM would check the presence of those products.
“The team are still on the locations to check,” he added.
Therefore, Roy has instructed his officials at the regional government level to guard this case.
“We’re going to give an official report to the public,” he added.
As previously reported by Antara recently, a child rights activist in Bekasi, found a milk drink marketed at children that includes a condom-like balloon.
Elly Risman, the head of the NGO Yayasan Kita dan Buah Hati, said on Friday that a Bekasi-based child protection center had found the drinks being sold to children in local kindergartens and primary schools.
The drinks in question come in sachets branded with popular cartoon characters, such as the Angry Birds and the characters from the Disney movie “Frozen,” and include an elongated rubber balloon that children are supposed to pour the drink into and then drink from.
