TEMPO.CO, Solo - The Indonesian National Police has declared Muhammad Bahrun Naim Anggih Tamtomo, also known as Bahrun Naim, as the mastermind behind the attack that occurred on Jalan Thamrin, Central Jakarta on Thursday, January 14, 2016. Bahrun, who is currently suspected to be in Syria, is known as a computer expert.

Born in Pekalongan, September 6, 1983, Bahrun is a diploma graduate from the Mathematics and Science Faculty of Universitas Sebelas Maret. Bahrun ran an internet cafe business immediately after he graduated from his studies.

A former terrorist convict speaking under the condition of anonymity said that Bahrun ran his internet cafe for two years. Bahrun had also met with Purnomo Putro, a man who gave him hundreds of ammunitions. Purnomo is a terrorist fugitive known to have joined the Cirebon terrorist cell.

Other than internet cafe, according to the former terrorist, Bahrun also engaged in online shop business. "He buys things from abroad and sell them in Solo," said the former convict.

In 2010, Bahrun was captured by the Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment 88 (Densus 88). The ammunitions previously handed over by Purnomo were confiscated. Bahrun was sent to jail for two and a half years.

After he was released, Bahrun departed for Syria to join the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). In Syria, Bahrun created a blog and started to write and interact with his supporters through online media.

Official from the Universitas Sebelas Maret confirmed that Bahrun had graduated from the university. "He take computer major and registered in 2002," said Sugiarto, Deputy Dean of the Mathematics and Science Faculty of the University.
