TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has launched a revitalization of Kaliagung Train series by adapting Borobudur theme. The train will operate from Semarang Poncol to Tegal Station, passing through Weleri, Pekalongan and Pemalang.
KAI CEO Edi Sukmoro said the train has been restored so it could become a part of tour promotions in Indonesia, particularly in Central Java. “Borobudur is a world tour icon. This is part of our effort to provide the best service to public” he said during the launching of Kaliagung Train on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.
Previously, KAI has launched Kaliagung train series with Tidar concept in mid 2015. According to Edi, the public interest toward the train is very good.
Central Java Regional Secretary Sri Puryono said an innovation like this is necessary as an attempt to introduce tourism in Indonesia. “We keep improving access. Train is a public transportation access which frequently used by travelers and greatly facilitates mobilization. What have been accomplished needs to be maintained and improved,” he said.
Kaliagung consist of 6 economy-class carriages with 636 seats cpacity, and an additional of food carriage for economy-class. The trains will be available daily for four roundtrip travels with 2 hours and 15 minutes for one trip.
The trains are designed with Borobudur theme including the exterior and interior. Some of the interiors is decorated with teak wood and stones carved.
Along 2015, Kaliagung train’s occupancy is about 1.05 million passengers or up by 16 percent from 2014 of 905,892 passengers.
