TEMPO.CO, Palembang - South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin and Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan believe that the light rail transit (LRT) project could be completed on time.
Alex says he is certain that the project can be completed before Asian Games 2018,
despite many obstacles during the 22.5km road construction.
Alex said LRT Palembang will be the first urban public transportation to be completed in Indonesia. According to a research, a grand lock or total jam will occur in Palembang in 2019. Therefore, Alex is making prevention efforts four years earlier.
The Rp7.2 trillion LRT construction in Palembang will feature 13 stations. PT Waskita Karta also assures that its physical construction will be completed in January 2018, or six months faster than the targeted date, June 2018.
At his visit at the project last Saturday in Palembang, minister Jonan assess that there are no significant obstacles in the LRT development so he believes the project can start its operation in June 2018.
“LRT is needed in Palembang to support urban transportation,” said Jonan.
