TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The newly-appointed President Director of PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta), Budi Kaliwono, promises to improve Transjakarta services and targets to achieve one million passengers daily. "We currently provide services to 320,000 passengers per day - if we could get this number up to one million, that's great," said Budi at Transjakarta's headquarters in Cawang, East Jakarta on Thursday, January 7.
Budi - who was appointed to replace the former director, Antonius Kosasih - calls on the pubic to try out Transjakarta's integrated services, which he believes will help with the capital's traffic challenges. "If we serve more passengers and improve our quality of service, we can get more buses to serve more people," he said.
"Transjakarta is designed to help with Jakarta's congestion problems," continued Budi, who urges residents to reduce their usage of private vehicles and to switch to Transjakarta.
The Head of Jakarta's Investment Coordination Agency (BPM), Catur Laswanto, said that Budi's appointment was decided by his excellent track record. "He has a good record in transportation and finance issues," he said.
"Hopefully pak Budi could manage Transjakarta with his expertise," said Catur, who said that he had made Budi aware of all the issues that the company is facing. Catur also hopes Transjakarta could run smoothly without a hitch under Budi's tenure.
