TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil plans to step up surveillance and security measures around the Mayor's Residence, following a makeshift bomb blast which occurred on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2015, right across from the Mayor's official residence.
"We are worried - but we'll take preventive measures before we do anything drastic, so we plan to add CCTVs every year," said Kamil at Bandung's City Hall on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.
Kamil said that a public-private partnership scheme will be used to fund the procurement of additional CCTVs across the city. "We have limited funds, so at first we'll add 100 units - while the remaining 1,000 will be procured and paid for in the long run," he said.
The Mayor admits that the 12 CCTVs installed around the scene of the incident is only aimed towards the inside of the residence, so authorities are finding it difficult to identify the person who detonated the bomb at Bandung's Square at New Year's Eve. That said, all CCTV footages recorded by Bandung's Command Centre have been handed over to the authorities - since at least one CCTV was pointed towards an area not far from the incident had occurred.
"There is one CCTV on Dalemkaum - it has no direct view of the site, but it is still within the general vicinity of the area," he said.
Kamil also plans to step up security measures around the Mayor's Resident by adding more security guards to secure the perimeter - that said, the guards will be dressed in costumes that will be made as appealing as possible, akin to Palatine guards of royal palaces. "There's a gate that's being built near the residence, so we'll station some guards there," Kamil said. "If we dress them up in cool costumes, the guards could be a tourist attraction on its' own by day."
