TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Jakarta sanitary office collected up to 700 tons of garbage after the 2016 new year’s celebration ended Friday morning.
Head of Jakarta sanitary office Iswana Adji said total garbage is less than last year’s that reached 900 tons. He said possibly the decline was caused by less people in the capital during the long weekend.
“Many residents went home [outside Jakarta], so there are less number of people,” he told Tempo on Friday, January 1.
He said the other reason is the less number of entertainment stages in central Jakarta. However, locations with most amount of garbage is still around the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, Tugu Tani, Old City and around Ancol.
The sanitary office dispatched 5,000 personnel to clean the capital.
