Trade Ministry Enforces SNI for All Products

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Trade Ministry has decided to deregulate products certified with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) in a bid to protect consumers.

“We issued a deregulation policy aiming at forcing all products to be SNI-compliant,” Widodo, the director general of standardization and consumer protection at the Trade Ministry, said on Monday, November 2.

The deregulation policy on the supervision of SNI-compliant products is set forth in Trade Minister Regulation No. 72/2015. The regulation contains the third amendment of Trade Minister Regulation No. 14/2007 governing the standardization of service in the trading sector and the supervision of the SNI that must be implemented in goods and services.

According to Widodo, the deregulation is aimed at simplifying import license and accelerating document flows. In addition, the deregulation is expected to accelerate service and license, as well as to improve the services.

One of the changes in the new regulation is the removal of goods registration letter (SPB) as a requirement to obtain the SNI. Now, importers only need to apply for goods registration number to obtain the SNI certification.
